Windows phone: Are you in?

The seminar on windows phone basically talked about the features of the windows phone. First of all, what makes it special?

GAMES!!!

Today people use phones for 2 most common reasons. These reasons are: for communication and entertainment. I am fully aware that my phone is basically for calling my parents, friends and relatives but most of the time it is for GAMING!! yehey!! Playing games like:

or simply listening to music of various artists (e.g. Taylor Swift)

In the talk, the possibilities presented by windows in the new windows phone 7 seemed to open a new avenue for more innovations and high expectations. Ofcourse, as a user I will expect more in the upcoming releases. The trend of touch-screen devices and metro UI created an impact especially on consumers. Infact I was one of those who was typically amazed with it.

When I searched the web for the features of the windows 7 phones, I was directed to this link:

In this article, McDougall, Paul identified the 7 things that makes WINDOWS PHONE 7 "hot"!! And these are the: (refer to link above if you want to read the article)

1. Multitasking

I Multitask! People tend to do a lot of things imultaneously. Like view a calendar while sending a message (how is it related? setting a meeting date :P ) In this so, multitasking is made easy with the impact of the live tiles in the windows phone.

2. Hardware Acceleration

3. 4G Speed

4. Threads

Glide from one text to another. Now I can see the real time flow of our conversation. From the previous topics to the recent. I will be able to track what I was saying and what we are talking about without the hassle going throught the sent items.

5. Local Scout

All restaurants, malls and entertainment are now in my hands! I can view the way to that specific resto or mall. I can search for malls, entertainment and restaurants. No more hassle of finding where I want to go. This feature integrated with Bing allows me to see routes and maps so I can go where I want to go.

6. Skype

Calling people around the globe!! Useful specially with contacting our OFW relatives or in business term, online meeting. Business meetings can occur via conference calls. Now it can be anywhere and anyhow. When you like it and how you like it.

7. Office 365

Document adding and editing made easy. All the documents such as .doc or .ppt or .xls (you get the idea) can now be edited in your windows phone. odt files can also be viewed and edited here. So as a student, on the way to school, I can still review for the upcoming exam or the upcoming presentation or the most common which is do an assignment. (joke =P )

Powered by A Cell

Small but terrible, a small device that gets us connected and waiting for more.

A cellphone as defined by wikipedia is a:
a device that can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link whilst moving around a wide geographic area. It does so by connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the public telephone network. By contrast, a cordless telephone is used only within the short range of a single, private base station. (Wikipedia, 2012)
but to a student what is it?

- a way of spacing out away from boredom

- playing games and listening to music

- material for gossip update?

- communication with parents

- keeping in touch with friends?

- organizer

- alarm clock

- calendar

- camera (for vain people & students who are too lazy to copy assignments ^_____^ )

what more? There are thousands of possible answers one can think of. We argue that it is a necessity, to live like a matter of life and death. We think that it's an accessory, being updated in the latest gadget just to say you're RICH
or "in" the crowd. But do we really see what we are headed to? Do we know where this current mobile trend is heading? Well, just relax and lets take a peek of the past, present and future of mobile computing in a student's perspective..
