Small but terrible, a small device that gets us connected and waiting for more.
A cellphone as defined by wikipedia is a:
a device that can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link whilst moving around a wide geographic area. It does so by connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the public telephone network. By contrast, a cordless telephone is used only within the short range of a single, private base station. (Wikipedia, 2012)
but to a student what is it?
- a way of spacing out away from boredom
- playing games and listening to music

- material for gossip update?
- communication with parents
- keeping in touch with friends?
- organizer
- alarm clock

- calendar
- camera (for vain people & students who are too lazy to copy assignments ^_____^ )
what more? There are thousands of possible answers one can think of. We argue that it is a necessity, to live like a matter of life and death. We think that it's an accessory, being updated in the latest gadget just to say you're RICH
or "in" the crowd. But do we really see what we are headed to? Do we know where this current mobile trend is heading? Well, just relax and lets take a peek of the past, present and future of mobile computing in a student's perspective..
Mobile Computing : A technology that allows transmission of data, via a computer, without having to be connected to a fixed physical link. (http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~nd/surprise_96/journal/vol4/vk5/report.html)
Hearing the word MOBILE COMPUTING gives me an interpretation of involvement of mobile phones, computers and people. The interaction of people and computers and how they came to be as a part of daily life or usage. It is the handiness of a mobile phone with the capabilities of a computer combined together and improves human productivity.

"GOING MOBILE"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is today's most heated topic, option and discussion. Companies who USED to develop games and applications for computers now recognize the need for developing same applications but for mobile use. They must do this so to be able to maintain their competitiveness in the global market. With the new versions of iOS every year or less than a year and the recent developements in Android OS, the need for applications with new, useful and worth it functionalities and use IS A MUST!!

"Nokia handiness"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My FIRST EVER phone was a NOKIA 3310. The phone was given to me by my parents for communication purposes even though I'm just in grade 2 or 3 that time. My idea of having a cellphone before was, "ok, kahit walang load okay lang. Kasi maglalaro lang naman ako ng snake dyan". Before, it's such a big deal when YOU have a cellphone. People think you're rich. People look up to you like you've got a sign plastered on your forehead that says "LOOK AT ME!! I'm rich and IN THE CROWD because i have a Cellphone". This idea seemed to always puzzle me.
After a year, my parents gave me another phone. As this title suggests, it still is a nokia phone but a new version. Since i'm not such a texter and my friends seemed not to have phones then I rarely use it. EXCEPT!! for boredom purposes. Before having a load of P300 is a must beacuse that's the lowest load you can buy. Things such as pasaload, autoload max and unli calls or text doesn't exists.
From my nokia partner, I shifted to a Samsung phone. A samsung phone that can be folded in half. (i forgot the model ^_____^V ). Graphics of that phone was the best during those times. And it's capability of playing the muisc, monotone or polytone style, at the sound and melody of your favorite song is amazing. Apparently we have to part, my parents gave it to my younger sister after a few years.
THis means a new PHONE!! a SAMsung phone with the middle part as being TOUCH SENSITIVE!! ohyeah!! new phone!! This means new games!!! PLUS! PLUS! PLUS! with a camera. haha!! ^____^ (Okay, i forgot what model it is but i do know that it is a samsung phone). I was fond of it for a while because of the games and the ability to add music.. :D
Moving from samsung phone to SONY ERICSON..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"My K610i"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of my favorite phones is the Sony ericson K610i. Can you believe that i used to play COUNTER STRIKE on that phone? Ofcourse!! it's a game i installed there. I had a lot of games in that phone with a lot of music and pictures. The phone lasted for about 2 years. I wanted to keep it. But moving with technology (should I say GLOBE phone FREEBIES.. hahaha) I had to let it go.. ( TT___TT ) Another new phone from globe.. yipeee!!
Going back to nokia agen but this time it's N70. Dual camera, a lot of games, DUAL camera, 2 GB memory card, dual camera. I guess by now you know what i liked about that phone. Yeah! It's the dual camera. Front and back, I used to take a lot of pictures of me, my friends and family. Should I say freeze the memories and reminisce it by looking at the photos.
Nokia white E72 is my current phone!! White and it still haven't reached 2 years i think. Lost track of time, sorry. Though limited applications and games are available at the OVI store, still I loved it!! The music player is what I enjoy the most. I loved the sound and how it is compatible to multiple headsets or headphones. :)

"Tablet and Touch-screen blues"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As of the moment, I currently have my Transformer TF101 Eeepad. Can be a tablet, a phone and a netbook. 3 functionalities!! It was an 18th birthday present from my parents. They said that instead of always bringing a 16 inches gaming laptop, just bring this tablet to school. I installed games and a lot of cool applications that helps me in class and leisure. Hahaha! Also going with the motto of "PAPERLESS", instead of printing, I just save it in my tablet.
THE PRESENT and FUTURE
Today Philippine ranks as the TEXTING capital of the world. Can't say it's not true because I know that WE do LOVE to communicate and make "kamusta" with each other. Even now small kids running around knows how to operate a mobile phone. Even a beggar has a mobile phone. Can be for texting? or probably gaming.
If today it stand as a developing business or area, then how about the future?
"EVERYTHING WILL BE IN MOBILE"
- the whole world will then revolve around a mobile phone and technology. The combination of computer functionalities and the handiness of a mobile phone is not something to be under estimated. The movement of the GOOGLE generation towards a new more advanced generation is fast approaching. People develop and gain income through mobile computing. Students focus on mobile phones. In the near future there is NO DOUBT that everything will be in phones. As of now WINDOWS is now on phone, so what's not to expect?
Let me ask you one more thing..
"CAN YOU MOVE FORWARD with the MOBILE?"
